May 1 - Oct 1 | Originally 65 feet high, the white painted brick tower was extended to its present height of 86 feet in the early 1860's. Today, Coast Guardsmen are stationed at this point and occupy the keeper's house. The lighthouse watches over one of the busiest waterways in the world. Tours are by reservation only, but well worth the effort to line up, since they're given by a gentleman in period costume!
