By The Quay was born from a shared love of two things, memorable spaces and really good coffee. Owners Jon & Anna spent countless evenings imagining the shop and what it could become. They pictured a warm, welcoming space with coffee people would go out of their way for; as well as a local community hub, where conversations, friendships and ideas would flourish.

​​Turning this dream into a reality & building a coffee shop from scratch was no small feat. We researched equipment, suppliers and workflow layouts. We sketched and re‑sketched the interior until it felt right. We built our brand identity, one that reflected warmth and authenticity. It took months of preparation and with help from friends and family we were able to transform an empty shell into a coffee shop.  The old was pulled down, walls were painted, counters built, lighting installed, and with little details added, the space began to come to life.

The day we opened, we saw a living, breathing space shaped by the people who helped make it. Ever since, By The Quay has been filled with cherished regulars, curious newcomers and a team behind the bar, who make it all possible.

Our journey, that transformed an idea into our wonderful harbourside coffee shop, taught us that great things grow from passion, persistence, and connection. And in many ways, our story is still just beginning...
